Greetings in this Google Drive tutorial we shall be looking at how to download view only and protected Google sheet. This tutorial is great for if you have view only access to a Google sheet file but want to download the Google sheet so you have a local copy of that Google sheet spreadsheet.
This Google sheet tutorial will show you how to download a view only Google sheet from Google Drive. This is a version of the Google sheet that will have all the contents of the google spreadsheet file but will not be a sheet file. This will be a html file.
The first step is to open up the Google sheet file in your web browser. The next step is to edit the url. Replace the ending that has edit followed by some other characters with the following:
htmlview
It doesn’t matter what sheet of the google sheet file you are viewing when you edit the url.
Once you have edited the url, press the enter key. Now you will be taken to a html present view of the Google sheet file. You can right click on the screen and save the webpage as a html file.
That is all you need to do. When you open up the html file for the Google sheet you downloaded, you can see all the sheet in that html present view. You can’t select anything in this downloaded copy or edit it, but this is a great way to make a local copy of a view only protected Google sheet.
Doing this method of downloading a view only Google Drive Google sheet spreadsheet will not notify the creator of the spreadsheet or the person who shared it or anyone that you have downloaded the view only file.
